Shrubs to trees; 13--15 m tall; subglabrous; branchlets at first compressed or 4-angled; later terete; black brown. Petioles flat; 8--15 mm long; leaf blade ovate; elliptic to ovate-lanceolate; 4--10 x 1.5--4 cm; leathery; apex long acuminate; obtuse or obtuse acute; base cuneate; when dry very bright shiny adaxially and abaxially; dark green adaxially; pale brown abaxially; margin undulate or entire; slightly revolute; lateral veins 3--5 pairs; slightly distinct adaxially and abaxially; veinlets sparse; indistinct; stipules 3--5 mm long; broad at base; apex narrowed and acute or acuminate. Cymes peduculate; shorter than leaves; occasionally puberulent; bracts very small or absent. Calyx tube obconical; 1--1.2 mm long; limb truncate or indistinctly 5-lobed. Corolla greenish white or pale yellow; tube short; cylindrical; ca. 3 mm long; tomentose at throat; apically (4- or) 5-lobed; lobes suboblong; slightly shorter than corolla tube; apex acute; reflexed at anthesis; filaments short; anthers oblong; ca. 1.5 mm long. One more species has been recorded in Flora of Taiwan. Only one sheet of specimen at MO from Taiwan; Ching-en Chang 5409 (stipule triangular; aristate!; immature cymes with peduncle ca. 1.5 cm long); is available. Hsu 9509 and Huang & Kao 5240 must be checked also.
