Trees; up to 25 m tall; ca. 60 cm d.b.h. Bark gray-brown or gray-black. Branchlets and terminal buds densely yellow-brown tomentose or yellow-brown puberulent. Terminal buds small. Leaves alternate or sometimes subopposite; petiole 5-14 mm; densely brown tomentose; leaf blade abaxially pallid; adaxially gray-brown or green-brown; shiny on both surfaces; elliptic to oblong; 6-9(-14) x 1.5-4.5 cm; leathery; midrib adaxially impressed; lateral veins 7-9 pairs; veins conspicuously and densely reticulate; somewhat laxly foveolate when dry; base acute or subrotund; apex acute with an obtuse acumen or sometimes round or incised. Panicles axillary; 3-5 cm; puberulent. Pedicels 1-2 mm. Flowers white or yellow-green. Perianth segments broadly ovate; puberulent outside. Filaments puberulent; those of 3rd whorl each with 2 stalkless glands near base. Staminodes sagittate. Fruits ellipsoid; 1.5-2 cm x 9-15 mm; verruculose; fruiting pedicels 1.5-3.5 mm in diam. Fl. summer; fr. Jul-Dec.
