Petiole 5--7 mm; pubescent to glabrous; leaf blade oblong; 12--19 X 3.5--6 cm; papery; abaxially glaucous and pilose or glabrous; base rounded; apex acuminate; lateral veins 8--12 pairs; abaxially elevated; and adaxially flat. Inflorescences axillary; 1-flowered. Flowers 4.5 cm or more; 1--1.5 cm in diam.; lanceolate in bud. Pedicel 1--2 cm; pubescent. Sepals broadly ovate; 2.5--3 mm; outside pubescent. Petals dark red; lanceolate; ca. 4.5 X 0.8 cm; outside pubescent; inside glabrous. Stamens numerous; cuneate; connective apex truncate. Carpels numerous; pubescent; ovules 2 per locule.
