Shrubs or small tree; 0.5-5 m tall. Leaves opposite; papery or coriaceous; oblong; elliptic oblong or lanceolate oblong; rarely oblong ovate; sometimes slightly oblique; 5-23.5 x 2-9 cm; apex acuminate; abruptly acuminate; or acute and often obtuse; base cuneate; entire; slightly shiny when fresh; dark red or brownish red below and pale green when dry; midribs and lateral nerves impressed above; prominent below; often with hairs fascicled in axils of nerves (often with domatia in axils); lateral nerves 5-15 pairs; ascending in an arc; inconspicuously confluent n ear margin; petioles 0.7-5 cm long; glabrous or very rarely pubescent; stipules membranous; in short sheath; apex unsplited; 6-8 x 6-9 mm; caducous. Cymes usually terminal; glabrous or rarely pubescent; many-flowered; peduncles usually very short; trichotomous near the base; often in corymbose or paniculiform; 2-10 x 3-5 cm; pedicles 1-2.5 mm long; calyx tubes cupuliform; ca. 2 x 2.5 mm; limbs expanded; subtruncate or inconspicuously 5-toothed; corolla white; lobes 2-3 x ca. 2 mm; throat white villose; lobes subtriangular; 2-2.5 x ca. 1.5 mm; reflexed at anthesis; stamens alternate to corolla lobes; anthers oblong; exserted; filaments 1-2 mm long; stigma 2-lobed; exserted or included.
