Erect shrubs; 1-2m tall; branchlets terete; smooth. Leaves opposite; usually in unequal pairs; blade membranous; oblong ovate to oblong elliptic; 8--14 cm or slightly longer; to 4.5 cm wide; apex acute or shortly acuminate; base slightly rounded or cuneate; lateral veins 7--12 pairs; petioles 1--3 mm long; stipules ovate or subulate at apex; ca. 3 mm long. Flowers sessile; few crowded in uppermost axils of branches; pedicle wanting; bracts ovate; acuminate; bracteoles usually connate; 1--2 mm long; calyx tube 1.5--2 mm long; limb 5--6-lobed; lobes ovate lanceolate; (unequal in length); 0.5--1 mm long; corolla cylindrical; glabrous or puberulcent outside; tube ca. 3 mm long; throat villose (/hirsute?); limb usually 4-lobed; lobes nearly as long corolla tube; elliptic to elliptic ovate; filaments very short; anthers narrowly oblong; ca. 1.2 mm long; style glabrous; stigma 2-lobed; lobes oblong; extrorse and spreading; ca. 1 mm long; hairy.
