Shrubs or small trees. Young branchlets glabrous; cataphylls numerous; along branchlets between leaf whorls; soon deciduous; glabrous; with pellucid glands at apical margin. Leaves mostly crowded at end of growth flushes; petiole 0.8--1.5 cm; leaf blade obovate; 4--14 X 1.5--5.5(--6) cm; leathery; glabrous; base cuneate; margin entire or minutely dentate; apex mucronate-acuminate; acute; or obtuse; lateral veins 11--14 pairs and adaxially slightly prominent. Inflorescences a glomerule or much reduced spike to 1.5 cm in axils of leaves and many from wood between whorls of leaves; axis tomentose-pubescent; bracts and bractlets persistent; ovate to suborbicular; tomentose; brown glandular punctate; margin ciliate. Ovary ca. 1 mm; glabrous. Calyx glabrous; tube ca. 0.5 mm; lobes ovate to suborbicular; ca. 1.5 mm; margin sometimes sparsely ciliate. Corolla ca. 4 mm. Stamens 40--60 or more. Disc low cylindrical to annular; glabrous. Drupes cylindrical; 6--8 X ca. 3 mm; apex with persistent erect calyx lobes. Fl. Jan-Sep; fr. Oct-May.
