Shrubs or trees; 2--15 m tall; branchlets ferruginous hirsute. Leaves papery; broadly elliptic; oblong; ovate or oblong lanceolate; 7--26 x 4--14 cm; apex shortly acuminate or abruptly acuminate; base cuneate or acuminate; upper surface sparsely hirtellate/hispidulous; slightly scabrous; ferruginous pubescent along veins; lower surface with dense greyish brown soft hairs; lateral veins 8--12 pairs; arcuate ascending; disappearing near the margin or joining with small transverse veins; prominent on lower surface. Petiole 0.5--3.5 cm long; densely ferruginous hirtellate; stipules persistent; hispid; base broad; apex rotund; with a expanded tip; reflexed; about twice as wide as branchlets. Inflorescences terminal panicled cymes; grayish brown hirsute; branches spreading; many-flowered; bracteoles linear lanceolate; nearly as long as or slightly shorter than calyx; with soft hairs. Flowers small; sessile; usually several fascicled. Calyx 1.5--2 mm long; densely greyish hirsute; lobes ovate triangular; as long or nearly as calyx tubes. Corolla funnelform; white; 3.5--4 mm long; glabrous outside; throat white hirsute; lobes ca. 1 mm long; reflexed in anthesis; much shorter than corolla tubes. Anthers elliptic; about 0.8 mm long; slightly exserted; filaments very short. Style nearly as long as or slightly longer than corolla; stigma 2-lobed; usually exserted. Capsules small; globose; 1--2 mm in diameter; pubescent. Fl. Jan--May; fl. Apr--Oct.
