Psammophytic steppe grasses (Stipa anomala, Festuca beckeri, rarely Koeleria sabuletorum) as well as psammophytic herbs with dominating and the most important stand forming species (e.g. Euphorbia seguieriana, Thymus kosteleckyanus, Helichrysum arenarium, Dianthus platyodon, Goniolimon graminifolium, Asperula graveolens, Achillea micrantha, Scorzonera ensifolia, Jurinea longifolia). Other obligatory psammophytes and annuals are frequently present.

In the species assemblage of the Dnieper steppes one finds Agropyron dasyanthum, Thymus borysthenicus, Centaurea margeritacea subsp. breviceps, in the Don steppes Agropyron tanaiticum, Thymus pallasianus, Centaurea margeritacea subsp. protogerberi, Centaurea margeritacea subsp. dubjanskyi, Centaurea margeritacea subsp. gerberi and in the steppes near Arčedinskie peski Juniperus sabina. The sand terraces of the Dnieper are inhabited by pine forests (Pinus sylvestris).
Oak (Quercus robur), birch (Betula pendula) or black alder forests, pine forests, tall reed vegetation and tall sedge communities.
